A trek to Mystery Lake of Uttarakhand i.e. Roopkund Lake is a must-do for an avid trekker! Battling several adversities common to the Himalayas, this water body perched in the laps of the snow clad Mt. Trishul is situated at an altitude of 16,499ft.

Most attractive for the human skeletons lying at the bottom of the lake, which are distinctly visible when the snow melts, the lake is swarmed by plenitude of visitors.

The route along this trek is a fascinating journey of discovering the most pristine of Himalayan contribution of oak and blooming rhododendron forests. A moderate trek, the trek trails through mountainous rivers, enthralling ridges, lush forests and scenic meadows.

Short Itinerary:

Day 01: Drive from Kathgodam to Loharjung

Day 02: Trek from Loharjung – Didina (5.5-6.5 HoursTrek)

Day 03: Trek from Didina Village – Ali Bugyal (2.5 Hours Trek)

Day 04: Trek from Ali Bugyal – Ghora Lotani (3km)

Day 05: Trek from Ghora Lotani – Bhagwabasa (2km/1.5 Hours Trek)

Day 06: Trek from Bhagwabasa – Roopkund Lake – Bedni Bugyal (4-5 Hours Trek)

Day 07: Trek from Bedni Bugyal - Wan (6 Hrs), Drive from Wan - Lohajung (1 Hr)

Day 08: Drive from Loharjung – Kathgodam

Day 1 – Kathgodam to Lohajung (222 KM drive)

You will be received at Kathgodam Railway Station or the Bus Stand. All trains arrive here from Delhi and various places. Kathgodam is the main Railway Station in the region. From Kathgodam, we begin our journey towards our base for the trek, Lohajung. The drive goes through the popular hill stations of Bhimtal and Almora. Bhimtal is a sister town of Nainital and Almora is a beautiful and historic town of the Kumaon region which was founded way back in 1568. You drive along amny small streams, most prominent being the River Kosi and enter into the Pindar valley. Your overnight stay at Lohanjung will be at the guest house or a permanent camp

Day 2 - Trek from Lohajung to Didna Village

Lohajung Pass, Bedni Ganga River

Today you will begin with the trek to Roopkund Glacier Lake! Take the Lord Curzon trail from Lohajung and follow a steady uphill trek through the Lohajung Pass, which eventually leads to a downhill trail to the Bedni River. Cross the bridge over the river and traverse through mixed forests of oak and bamboo to arrive at Didna Village. This is your first base camp on the trek route; overnight stay in tents.

Day 3 - Trek from Didna Village to Ali Bugyal

Steep Trek, Oak & Bamboo Forests, Garhwal Himalayas

After a wholesome breakfast, leave the basecamp and begin with a steep ascend through oak forests and long stands of bamboo. Admire the stunning views of the Garhwal Himalayan ranges as they appear ahead of you. Arrive at one of the finest camping grounds with stunning views on this side of the Himalayas as you enter open alpine grazing meadows of Ali Bugyal; overnight stay in here.

Day 4 - Trek from Ali Bugyal to Ghora Lotani

Easy Trek, Panoramic Himalayas, Magpie

Today's trek will be an easier one and will take you to the other side of the ridge; a keen eye can spot a Himalayan Magpie on the way. After a few hours of trekking, arrive at Ghora Lotani, which is yet again the most fascinating of destinations along the Roopkund trek; overnight camping in Ghora Lotani.

Day 5 - Trek from Ghora Lotani to Bhagwabasa

High Altitude Trekking, Barren Campsite, Icy Winds

Following today's breakfast in the camp, start with the trek for the day. Today, as you proceed forward, you will be gaining height from 12,500-14,500ft. Be prepared for some challenges offered by high altitudes, zigzag passes and icy cold winds. Passing through Kalu Vinayak, you will finally reach Bhagwabasa (4,100m) campsite in a desolate and barren landscape; overnight stay in tents.

Day 6 - Trek from Bhagwabasa – Roopkund Lake – Bedni Bugyal (via Bhagwabasa)

Roopkund Lake, Human Skeletons, Mt. Trishul, Gangotri Ranges

After four days of continuous trekking, today you will be at the most fascinating day of the trek! Starting with an early morning breakfast, today you will be trekking to the mysterious Roopkund Lake. This uninhabited landmark in the laps of Mt. Trishul has overwhelmed many travellers with its innumerable stories. From here,trek for another half hour to reach Junar Gali, the highest point on this trail, and trek back to the base camp at Bedni Bugyal via Bhagwabasa. Witness the captivating Garhwal Himalayas in full glory extending up to Gangotri; overnight stay in Bedni Bugyal.

Day 7 - Trek from Bedni Bugyal to Lohajung (via Wan)

Trekking, Rhododendron forests, alpine meadows

As you start your return trek, bid goodbye to an unforgettable experience as you can capture a glimpse of Mt. Trishul from Bedni Bugyal on a clear day from Kanakdhar, en route Wan. Follow steep descents, gradual climbs through forests packed with blooming rhododendrons. After a steep descent for the Neel Ganga, arrive at Wan. From here, you'll drive to Lohajung. Spend the night here.

Day 8 – Lohajung to Kathgodam Departure

Last day of our journey. Today early morning we depart from Lohajung and reach back to our end point of the trip at Kathgodam by 5 pm in the evening.

CANCELLATION POLICY 

Cancellations prior to 30 days from the start of the trek -- 80% Refund.

Cancellation between 30 days to 20 days prior to the trek -- 50% Refund.

Cancellation less than 20 days to the start of the trek -- No Refund.


TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. GST @ 5% payable on the trip fee. 

2. We provide transport from pick up point to Base Camp and vice-versa at a particular time. So you have to report this place before that time. If you failed to reach within this time then you have to make your own arrangement to reach and return from our Base Camp, or we can arrange a transport depends on availability by paying an additional charge.

3. We expect all trekkers to carry their own backpacks. All common gear will be carried by the support team. If for some reason a trekker is unable to carry his or her backpack, he/she can offload the same by paying an additional charge.

4. If for any reason a participant has to drop out from the trip on any day then we will make arrangements for his/her return to the nearest road head. A staff will accompany the participant to the nearest road head.

5. We will not be responsible for any loss/damage of your gears/equipment or other belongings on the trip. And if you damage or lose any of our equipment then you have to pay the full market price of that equipment.

6. Drinking and smoking during the trip is strictly prohibited. If found flouting the rules, your participation on the trip will be cancelled with immediate effect.

7. In case of any medical emergency, Medical expenses, if required, at the medical centre are to be borne by the participant.

8. If any of our trip cancelled due to any unavoidable reason. We will issue a voucher of the same amount of the trip. This can be redeemed for the same or any other trip within 1 year.

9. We have the right to postpone cancel the Trekking/ Cycling/ Camping/ Rafting/ Paragliding/ Expedition with or without any reason. We also have the right to terminate the participation of any member at any stage.

10. In case of any delay due to bad road condition or other unforeseen reasons. We will not be responsible.

11. All the issues will be subject to the jurisdiction of Kolkata.

12. All the costs are for Indian Citizen Only.
